Calling All Quilters!

Uinta County Library's 11th Annual

Quilt Show

Quilt Show speaker Saturday April 30th at 2 p.m. With reception to follow.

This year's speaker is Donna S. Moyer!

Donna was born and raised in the California Bay Area, then lived with her husband and 3 children in Southern California until they moved to Utah in 1975 as a result of a job opportunity. As a newly married woman Donna realized that she would have to make most of the clothes for herself and children, so she took some sewing classes to hone her Junior High skills. From then on she tried just about every craft imaginable (from counted cross stitch to hand spinning) before settling on quilting as her one great love. Just before she retired, Donna discovered the joy of the fabulous new cotton fabrics that were available to quilters in the late 90's. She was hooked by their beauty and variety. A basic quilting class followed and the rest is history as they say.
Donna loves to draft her own patterns for hand piecing and makes many of her quilts entirely by hand. She finds inspiration in architecture and nature, and loves to come up with original designs from these sources. She has a very bad habit of trying to do the impossible with fabric and thread. Where's the fun if the project isn't challenging? Donna has won many awards including two of the prestigious Merit Awards in the International Art Competitions sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has also won Best of Show at the Springville Museum of Art Quilt Show as well as ribbons for many other competitions. She was a top competitor in the McCall's Quilt Design Star Competition in 2012 finishing in Second Place after three rounds of intense design challenges. Just recently Donna had surgery on her right hand to repair a severed tendon--an injury which was caused by the motion of hand quilting. Long story. Fortunately the future looks bright and she will be back to quilting in no time at all. She has had plenty of time to plan the next few challenges.
